The teenager helped her to a bedroom where he raped her while she was unconscious. The court heard how another young woman had been drinking at a party and was so intoxicated that she struggled to walk. The mother said she strongly opposed name suppression. She said she feels she had failed her daughter. “You were living your life unimpaired, still attacking innocent victims and enabled by your parents.” Her daughter eventually returned to school to find the teenager still there. “By sheer chance I found her and got her to hospital just in time … She said she felt worthless.” The attack had left her daughter suicidal. She said her daughter was “staggeringly drunk” while the teenager was sober. She told the court that she worried the teenager would enjoy hearing how his offending had impacted her family but wanted to tell the court of her “rage and sadness”. “That’s on you,” she told the teenager, “that’s your impact.” One of the mothers spoke of how she and her husband worked around the clock to ensure their daughter did not repeat a suicide attempt. She also feels guilt because of the other young woman who he attacked afterwards. “I wanted to escape from the world that haunts me in.” She also attempted to take her own life and began using marijuana and alcohol to self-medicate. “They said had done nothing wrong and that I was lying about rape.” That was made worse when her attacker’s friends confronted her.

“ ability to communicate and put you at ease by saying all the right things is his weapon.” She also addressed the teenager’s recent diagnosis of being on the autism spectrum and disputed the idea that he had failed to understand when his sexual advances were rejected. “Take away his ability to continue the violence he has been committing… do not let this go on.” He has been deliberately seeking out girls and young women and violating them.”Įdmonds told the judge that naming the teenager would enable other survivors to come forward. “His trail of destruction has not just slipped under the radar, it’s been allowed to happen. “I look back and grieve for the years stolen from me,” she said. She said it had been five years since she had been attacked by the teenager. In the aftermath of the attacks she made a serious attempt to take her own life. “But he kept coming back, violating me again and again.” He attacked her at a park in front of others and then in a bus stop and later at a party.
